Yoshiyuki Konishi (Don Konishi) was born in 1950 in Tsu, Japan to a family of wealthy generational kimono makers. His family shop not only sold kimonos but also traditional Japanese clothing, furniture & tatami mats. At the time, his Uncle also owned a modern clothing store, putting him on to quality imported goods at a young age. Don grew up unknowingly surrounded by top quality traditional handmade products as well as European luxury which would later have an impact on the clothes he designs.
Konishi was first recognized in the fashion industry in 1981 after establishing his first colorful sweater brand, “FICCE”. The aesthetic was loud, colorful & outlandish which was a radical departure from the monochrome tones of Japan in the 80’s.
